Ten mega corporations control the output of almost everything you buy; from household products to pet food to jeans.

According to this chart via Reddit, called “The Illusion of Choice,” these corporations create a chain that begins at one of 10 super companies. You’ve heard of the biggest names, but it’s amazing to see what these giants own or influence.

Here are just a few examples: Yum Brands owns KFC and Taco Bell. The company was a spin-off of Pepsi. All Yum Brands restaurants sell only Pepsi products because of a special partnership with the soda-maker.

$84 billion-company Proctor & Gamble — the largest advertiser in the U.S. — is paired with a number of diverse brands that produce everything from medicine to toothpaste to high-end fashion. All tallied, P&G reportedly serves a whopping 4.8 billion people around the world through this network.

$200 billion-corporation Nestle — famous for chocolate, but which is the biggest food company in the world — owns nearly 8,000 different brands worldwide, and takes stake in or is partnered with a swath of others. Included in this network is shampoo company L’Oreal, baby food giant Gerber, clothing brand Diesel, and pet food makers Purina and Friskies.

Unilever, of soap fame, reportedly serves 2 billion people around the world, controlling a network that produces everything from Q-tips to Skippy peanut butter.

And it’s not just the products you buy and consume, either. In recent decades, the very news and information that you get has bundled together: 90% of the media is now controlled by just six companies, down from 50 in 1983, according to a Frugal Dad infographic from last year.

Ad agency Taproot physically recreated scenes from old hand-painted images of Indian goddesses.The campaign was created by blending traditional hand-painted Indian art with modern-day photography using real models by Mumbai’s Taproot India advertising agency has won multiple awards at different ad festivals. Makeup was used to add bruises and wounds to the models before photographing them. This is a recreation of the goddess Saraswati.

The campaign simply and effectively captures India’s most dangerous contradiction: that of revering women in religion and mythology, while the nation remains incredibly unsafe for its women citizens.100 million Indians, largely women and girls, are said to be involved in trafficking.

Each ad includes a phone number to report abuse to “Save Our Sisters.”

I only have one concern with this other wise great campaign for great cause The figures captured are Hindu Feminine forces /Goddess however we being a country with multiple religions other regions are ignored which might give a wrong impression that this message is only targeted to Hindu population .However NFHS 3 Data shows that how well spread the issue is nation wide among all religions and cultures.

Irrespective of my disagreements i give my full support to the cause and credits to artists for such neat work.Their work is simply superb.

The question is always the same after all what motivated the winner to sustain the extreme pressure for and do things differently. What motivated the person to keep going towards acme of success? What motivates his behaviour?

Bhaagmilkhabhaag_Maslows Hirarchy 10According to humanist psychologist Abraham Maslow, our actions are motivated in order achieve certain needs. Abraham Maslow studied what he called exemplary people such as Albert Einstein, Jane Addams, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Frederick Douglass who till date known as the real achievers of their times in addition to Maslow studied the healthiest 1% of the college student population and came up with a paper in year 1943 and Gave his theory of Motivation as Maslows’s hierarchy of needs . After him there came lot many motivational theories on and clinical psychology and psychiatry  but till date your knowledge of Human Motivational theory is incomplete without Maslows .

Maslows finding wouldn’t have been deviated a bit for the exemplary sports man Milkha Singh . The recent biopic on him portrays him as a true winner who kept winning, kept himself motivated may be for different reasons at different stages of his life and gradually moved towards the top of pyramid Self actualization.

Like any other biopic “Bhaag Milkha Bhag” also comprises of stories of guts, disappointment and glory but much more than it for a layman to learn about . The picture though portrays the story of success and glory with emotional turmoil of the  nation’s pre-eminent athlete from 1947 to 1960 and his growth cycle .Lets observe closely how Bhaag Milkha Bhag is registering it self for the motivation epic for management gurus. According to Maslow’s there are five levels of Hierarchy of Needs

  1. 1.    Physiological Needs

Milkha singh won his first race in the camp in his craving for Milk his basic need for special diet . His first motivation was reflected by the twinkle in his eyes on announcement of the rewards of winning the race. which suffices the very base of the pyramid physiological needs

These include the most basic and instinctive needs that are vital to survival, such as the need for water, air, food, and sleep. It puts all the needs become secondary until these physiological needs are met.

  1. 2.    Security Needs

Though for Milkha this sense of security soon moved to other aspects like steady employment when his love interest questions his carefree life style.

  1. 3.    Social Needs

The desire to be called Champion Milkha singh and wear the Coat of India and further to prove himself as an eligible contender and earn the badge pumps him to run in race even after the severe injuries which were result of the dirty internal rivalry of other sports man. He thus proves that a strong motivation and desire to win needs no boundaries

According to Maslow’s once the previous two needs get fulfilled a person is motivated by his Social Needs which includes include needs for belonging, love, and affection. Relationships such as friendships, romantic attachments, and families help fulfil this need for companionship and acceptance, as does involvement in social, community, or religious groups.

  1. 4 Esteem Needs

After the first three needs have been satisfied, esteem needs becomes increasingly important. These include the need for things that reflect on self-esteem, personal worth, social recognition, and accomplishment.

Once Milkha  looses the race at Melbourne summer Olympics  which gives him a personal dent .rather than moving into the spiral of depression he sets himself a target to break the record and retrieve the self esteem and accomplishment in his coming race which he successfully did in 1960 summer Olympics at Rome where Singh’s fourth-place time of 45.73 became the Indian national record and held for almost 40 years. This was followed by many more wins including multiple Gold Medals in Asian games and Common wreath games. This almost justifies Maslow’s last but Motivational cause the Esteem Needs which reflect on self-esteem, personal worth, social recognition, and accomplishment.

  1. 5.    Self-actualizing Needs

This is the highest level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Self-actualizing people are self-aware, concerned with personal growth, less concerned with the opinions of others, and interested fulfilling their potential.

He went back to his mother land and overcame his internal pain and fear . Shreds the burden and enlightens himself for the moment and he fights that race for no one else then himself. Thats why its said he didn’t ran he flew that day and earned  a title of Flying Sikh for himself. And that states the ultimate motivation of a person can have Self Actualization.This is the highest level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. This motivated state of a person makes himself aware, indifferent with others opinion and focused on fulfilling their potential. According to Maslow once a person reaches this peak of Pyramid he can be in auto motivated mode.

Though to an extent i agree that a man cannot be bound to the theories but still the iconic Milkha singh has proved if you just keep yourself enough motivated then success

Though the motivation behind every race he won was different followed by his dedication and devotion but still the similarities couldn’t be neglected.

The story of Milkha Singh is un doubtly inspirational. In this three hour saga, which takes us from Milkha’s childhood in then Punjab-now Pakistan, the trauma of Partition and being torn from his (Milkha’s) family, his lawless youth, his joining the Indian Army and gaining respectability. Followed by discovering the joys of running. For himself, and for the honor of his nation.

Sam and Dean Winchester Do Supernaturals Season 8 in India

After sucessfully running seven seasons of Tele series Supernaturals whats there in season 8 of supernaturals …yellow eyed deamon ,lucifer and michel , Apocalypse, Pergurgatory  what New God what could be the next move to keep season going on and on. Well while watching supernaturals have this thought ever occurred to you what if this all happens in India. Ya in our very own India will the road a line of roses with public support or the bumpy with bumpy roads and encounters with traffic and population you can imagine some interesting plots coming up if they chose India

  • They have to face the bumpy roads and for sure they have to spend half their time in garrage or will be buying a new SUV  so for sure their beloved impala will be gone as soon as they get the taste of indian roads. And guess what if they are stuck in traffic jams they will have to catch auto 😉 or the local train … Man it is going to be real tough job

  • For sure they will get loads of descriptions and tele serials on TV and who knows some of peopel will might even tell them that Shani ki sade sati chal rahi hai (Kaal sarpa dosha etc etc)
  • Yes here their series will seriously be banned in case u made fun of God and shown them drinking and smoking at least you have to show Gods once in their Golden ornaments
  • Even if they pick gods one by one we have cores of Gods with their domain specifications Finance : Kuber, Creator : Brahma
  • oo yaa it might happen that every “son of bitch ” will be replaced by “son of  ***********” i mean sensor board can cut it .
  • Ok now lets talk about girls in their life 😉 thinking can you go to the story line of Satyawan and Savitri

With all this i can say they can have an entire season shot in indians or in honour of indians (not only keeping gods like Ganesha and Kali ) I strongly feel the management of Indian Gods at indraloka is far more intresting and exiting plot for them to play. Hmm at least after writing this much i think they could at least dedicate few episodes to this.Because i can see lots of spice in it 🙂 and trust me TRP internationally will just shoooooooooooot upppp 😀 Worth giving a shot  Eric Kripke

Happy Birthday Star “Life Ok” & Good Bye Star one

Star  with Rupert Murdoch’s entertainment company is launching Life OK, a brand new channel aimed at the 150 million television viewers in the Hindi-speaking market. “people are just too free to watch TV and sit on Internet “

Well I think colors and ndtv india is giving star group a tough competition 😉 as they are already drawing youth to watch their shows so very few left to watch whats on the channel. So they have to accept the failure of star one and come up with an idea that now they will not cater some selected age group but some selected mind sets which is in major .( What difference it is going to make let the time tell)

As the trailer shows man is not happy in life by what and when he is getting things he always feels he deserved better or someone else is having better so the channel wants to say that appreciate what you have . The name Life OK reflects the philosophy of the new brand. “Through our stories we wish to tell people that you are free to seek what you want but in your search for more you must not forget what you already have,” Sounds like kahan ghar ghar ki 😉

“Teri to hai aish , apni to dhat tariki , uska dekho style, apni to dhat tariki…..”.

But I don’t see any special fresh breeze in serials it just like colors ,sony,zee etc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_OK    😦 except  the following

  • for the fact that the telesoaps on the channel will be for 7 days of the week . Which means that you will feel same on every day in this channel no Sundays for them.
  • Life OK also plans to manage advertising inventory differently. It will have three shows an hour unlike the standard two on other channels and advertising breaks won’t exceed two minutes. Which means you have less time doing dish washing
  • It seems they are so much into chasing other channels that they missed to cater the young star one fans .. as i dont see any series for them teel coll going gang as of now.

  • Choosing Madhuri Dixit nene a women from middle class reached stardom on her own is the smart move on channels part. Madhuri Dixit will be the channel’s vivacious ‘Suthradhar’ and will guide viewers about the stories on the channel and its link to the channel’s philosophy.

I can see this is going to be the major launch of the season under the new CEO Armed with a launch budget of more than Rs. 700 crore, the channel is expected to spend Rs. 120 crore in marketing the brand via digital media, roadblocks on television, print and outdoor campaigns. The rest is being invested in programming and distribution.

 Biding Good Bye to Star One Sega

Well after almost 7-8  years of Star one we are saying good bye to it. Start one was a Youth oriented channel and almost every serial was based on chocolaty love stories be it vampires or school collage going kidos you can listen to the story and tell its start one.

When Long back it was launched for almost 1 year i was impressed 🙂 by this channel as it came up with brand new fresh feel serials like guns and roses, siddhant and Remix all were great start-ups but the entire feel of the channel deteriorated with the time and  I started using the channel as comedy channel whenever you have to see some thing beyond the world goody or bad watch and laugh

The only consistent fav of all class and age group was Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai

Its sad :(( that “abb geet parayai nahi ho payegi” pyar ki ye kahani me vampire werewolf & humans will stay together forever and colleges will be waiting for some hip hop people altogether .;)

Yes Sony is going to buy ETV .Sony take control of 11 of the 12 channels in the ETV basket, owned by Ramoji Rao’s Ushodaya Enterprises, Ya the only channel left will be the Telgu one as Mr Rao will not let any one take over the AP Political hold he has because of Enadu Publications.Ushodaya has three divisions, Eenadu Publications, ETV Network and pickles and food company Priya Foods. The group has diversified rapidly into film and TV production and distribution, financial services, garment manufacturing and hospitality. Well thats quite an move for sony channel (Multi-Screen Media (MSM), which runs Sony Television in India) http://www.setindia.com/ to be a market entrant after Star Network and ZEE. It means strong action in Channel industry is going to happen.

Just to revise that ZEE is having its own Alpha series which turned out to be Zee Marathi and other regional channels just like Star which proudly owns Star regional channels so Sony must be feeling left out in the market . After all this is the season of deals

Biggest media deal for $500-600 million (around Rs 2,600 crore ) to give Sony a bigger share of regional pie.Indeed this deal will be the deal of decade in India or who knows even in Asia which will overshadow any of the business deals done so far like Disney’s premeditated venture in UTV, Turner’s purchase of NDTV imagine from New Delhi Television and coming together of Viacom and Network18 presently functioning under CNBC Indian version. Wohho so much buying is going on in the market.

Now comes cause and effect of the deals ( Note the views expressed are facts + my analysis so I not being a media expert you can not Quote them 😉 )

  • Currently Sony was landing some where above Colors () and NDTV Imagine and below Zee and Star due to their regional share and this deal will land sony ahead with at least 2-3 regions ahead of Zee and Star who have almost the coverage in 8 regions only.
  • Apart from having a pan-India presence, ETV’s infotainment channels also reach out to Indian diaspora in the US, providing digital entertainment via ETV Telugu, ETV Bangla and ETV Gujarati entertainment channels.And ETV group is the one which on the line of Doordarshan clubs news and entertainment altogether.USP 😉
  • According to a Ficci-KPMG report, regional general entertainment accounts for over 25.06 per cent of the Rs 8,000 crore-plus TV advertising pie with a viewership share of 27.3 per cent.So its a wise move by Sony in all aspects and will indeed be able to take ROI if wisely used
  • Might be Sony is planning to repeat the success story of SAB ( Shree adhikari brothers) now the only channel of its type and in the segment.
  • And why Mr Rao is IN is leaving only Telgu channel out of the pocket Eenadu is a fierce competitor of Sakshi, the newspaper of former chief minister Y S R Reddy’s son, Jagan Reddy. DHAN TA DHAN 😉
  • But the question is will ETV telgu will retain same name or the other regional areas as well?
  • And some how I see lots of cultural differences in the channel operations of ETV grp and Sony group so will this merger be gelled well or not that only time will tell but i guess the employees will be enjoying the Sony status soon.
  • Now what else lets wait for the day when the deal is sealed. 😀
